Howdy folks! The MichGPAA Webwrangler here! Well, a new feature for the website has just been added. The blog page. Here folks I hope to keep the website a little bit more active through posts about what I'm up to, maybe answer some questions that some folks may have, pass along info that other members have. For those that may have been friends with me on MySpace, you may be familiar with my format. I'm not always formal. When the post requires it, I will be. My posts here will be in the realm of prospecting, with a particular focus on Michigan. Soo...Lets begin!
The West Branch outing had a turnout that was much better than I had anticipated. From the feedback I had gotten, folks there liked the property. If ya were'nt able to make it, check out the pic's from a few members that sent them to me. We did have one member who found in excess of 20 colors there. So, after many years, we as a Chapter did prove Keith Voss right, contact moraines DO hold gold!
Yesterday (June 6), I took a little road trip with Mrs. Webwrangler. The idea was to locate a spot someone had told me about that was a hour or so away from my house. On the way I spotted for like the millionth time a piece of the Shiawassee River that I've wanted to put a pan in. So, I changed plans and made tracks that way. The place I'm speaking of is Henderson Park. It's 3 miles south of the Saginaw Co. line in Shiawassee Co. on Henderson Rd, roughly 3/4 mile west off of M-52. I've posted pics of my little adventure on the Members Pics page. I didn't move too much stuff as I only had a small shovel, a couple buckets, the 12 mesh & 1/4" screens. I had one 200 mesh piece in what I brought home. Disappointing? I guess, but this being my first jump into this waterway, I was also looking at what was in the gravels, how the water was moving, ect. There are many large boulders in this particular stretch. They aren't lumped closely together, but they resemble some of the boulders at Barkus. It'd be interesting if the water was low enough what one could find behind these rather large pieces of rock.
Thats about all I have for now. If any of ya'll find a place that may make for a good outing location for the chapter, PLEASE do not hesitate to email one of the officers. I also look forward to folks who email their pics of their finds. It gets me pumped up to get outside and play in the dirt! These blog posts should have a comments portion attached to them. Feel free to leave comments if ya wish. All I ask is that they are clean of profanity, spam, ect. (I get to review them before they're posted.)
Get outside! Theres no better place to be!
